Training treats in a tube

IMG265Simple, easy and delicious training treats are important. I usually make my own both because I want to be sure that the ingredients are high-quality and healthy for my dogs and the dogs I’m working with. Making treats myself is also significantly cheaper than buying commercial products.

My new favourite is canned tripe and pureed sweet potato baby food, combined to the consistency of thick ketchup, in a squeezable food tube. Just pop the lid open, give the tube a squeeze and let the dog lick it. No fuss, no mess. It’s quick and easy to deliver.

I used this combination today with a full-grown male German Shepherd dog. We worked for a solid hour, learning a new, difficult behaviour and refinining some that we’ve been working on for awhile. He received less than an ounce of the treat during our time together. He loved it!
